Hey, it's our first Live .NET Rocks! Show EVER! Oh yeah, we recorded a show live at the PDC, but we didn't broadcast it live! What's more, Carl's co-host is none-other than the infamous Rory Blyth

This show is 2 hours long, and commenced Friday, January 30, 2004 at 12PM EST, 9AM PST.

In the first hour, Bill Vaughn and Peter Blackburn talk about SQL Reporting Services, Microsoft's foray into the data reporting market.

In the second hour, Carl and Rory welcome noted VB and PC guru Dan Appleman to talk about marketing hype, how developers are spending their time, and his new book Always Use Protection

Rory is moving to New London March 1st. So, the new live show format will commence March 5th, and will be only format for .NET Rocks! going forward. Remember! Friday's at Noon Eastern!

Bill Vaughn

William (Bill) Vaughn is an industry-recognized author, mentor, and subject-matter expert. He's been in the computer industry for over thirty years - He's worked with mainframe, minicomputer, and personal computer systems as a developer, manager, trainer, marketer, support person, and writer.

After 14 years at Microsoft, Bill stepped away to work on his new books and training seminars. His area of specialization is focused on data access and especially Visual Basic and SQL Server. He's written six editions of the Hitchhiker's Guide to Visual Basic and SQL Server (published by Microsoft Press) and two editions of ADO.NET and ADO Examples and Best Practices for Visual Basic Programmers. There's even a C# version, ADO.NET Examples and Best Practices for C# Programmers.

Bill is a top-rated speaker and frequents conferences all over the world including VSLive, DevConnections, and PASS (Professional Association for SQL Server). He's also written a wealth of articles for magazines such as SQL Server Magazine, Visual Basic Programmer's Journal, .NET Magazine, and many others. Bill is currently working on new content focusing on the .NET Compact Framework and SQL Server CE as well as the next version of SQL Server. He's available for consulting or custom training.

Peter Blackburn

Peter Blackburn is an up-and-coming MVP guru on the Microsoft SQL Server and .NET technology scene. While his focus of late is Reporting Services, Peter is well-versed in many other facets of SQL Server and .NET application technology.

Peter runs Boost Data Limited and develops database solutions based on Microsoft SQL Server and the .NET Framework. He says he's been connected to a keyboard almost continually for 24 years. During this time he's built his own client-server database systems from the ground up in C, and provided consulting services to corporations and local government.

Peter co-authored "ADO.NET Examples and Best Practices for C# Programmers" in partnership with William (Bill) Vaughn. Bill and Peter are currently working on a soon-to-be-published "Hitchhiker's Guide to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services" to be followed by other Hitchhiker's Guides on Yukon SQL Server and SQL Server CE ; all published by Addison Wesley Professional.

Peter has contributed countless hours to the development and honing of Microsoft Reporting Services and supporting developers through the newsgroups and beta programs. Peter lives in the United Kingdom and travels all over the world to consult, speak and provide support for his fellow developers, his writing team and Microsoft itself.

Dan Appleman

Dan Appleman is a well known author, software developer and speaker. He is the founder and CEO of Desaware Inc., a developer of add-on products and components for Microsoft Visual Studio. He is a Microsoft Visual Basic MVP, webmaster of SearchDotNet.com, one of the cofounders of APress publishing, and is the author of numerous books and ebooks including "How Computer Programming Works" and "Always use Protection: A teen's Guide to Safe Computing.
